Documentation Services

Alaska Boat & Marine will do the paperwork for you!
We offer U.S. Coast Guard Documentation services for recreational and commercial vessels.

First-Time Documentation
We collect all pertinent information required by the US Coast Guard to acquire a Certificate of Documentation. We complete the required forms from the Coast Guard's wide variety, and assist you in deciding what endorsements your vessel will be required to carry for its intended use. We do the leg work in running down the needed signatures and notarizations.

Re-Documentation
We know how to not get fined!

Un-Documentation
We provide clients with the assistance they need to properly remove a vessel from US Coast Guard documentation.

Changing the Vessel Name or Lost Your Certificate?
We file all necessary paperwork and inform clients of regulations pertaining to name or hailing port changes as well as to replace a lost or damaged document for their vessel.

Alaska State Registration
For your increased safety and ease, we will register your boat with the State of Alaska.

US Corporate Documentation
We collect all pertinent information required by the US Coast Guard, fill out the variety of forms, and assist you in deciding what endorsements your vessel(s) are required to carry for the intended use.

Reasons to Document My Vessel

  •  Commercial activities
  •  Marine lenders usually require vessel documentation
  •  US protections in international waters
  •  Certificate of ownership supported by a detailed abstract reflecting all ownership and lien   transactions.

Required for Commercial Use or by Lender
A properly recorded "Preferred Vessel Mortgage" grants your lender a first priority contractual lien position against your vessel. However, such mortgage cannot become recorded or "perfected" unless the vessel is documented with the US Coast Guard. Accordingly, most lenders will require the vessel to become documented when the loan amount exceeds a certain amount, when the vessel exceeds a certain size, or when the vessel is intended for offshore and commercial usage. In such cases, you may have difficulty obtaining a loan if the vessel does not otherwise qualify for documentation.

Alaska Has No Titling System
When documented, the vessel has a clearly defined ownership. Alaska State registration does not reflect any liens or claims against a vessel. In the case of an undocumented vessel, marine lenders must look for other methods of securing the vessel as collateral for a loan.
A documented vessel may still hold state registration if desired.

Preferred Mortgage
We provide all of the necessary services to record a preferred mortgage on a documented vessel. This package includes: Coast Guard abstract of title, preparation of the mortgage, all necessary signatures.

Satisfaction of Mortgage
This package includes all the necessary services to prepare and file a satisfaction of mortgage with the US Coast Guard.

Lien Clearance
We assist clients in obtaining payoff quotations, arrange the payoff, and obtain all necessary lien holder releases.

Trust Fund Account
Acting as a third party, we will hold funds in our Trust Account for buyers as assurance for sellers until released by the buyer at the close the sale.
